Hello,

While the colors are indeed stunning and the overrall composition can be said to be good, what really takes away from this picture is your choice of aperture in combination with the chosen angle- while I understand that you wanted to only take a detail of the whole flower while keeping the rest in background, as you may notice this also caused (mostly becuase of the angle, but the out of focus areas add to it) a distorsion in the transition from the petals to the rest of the flower, thus making that area "artificial" a slight change in the angle (say 15 degree right and 5-10 degrees up wou8ld likely fix that while still allowing you to go for a 2.8 aperture (which si however quite open for a close-up macro shots, with a few exeptions allowed) so I'd suggest using an f4.

Hope you find this useful,

Good shooting,

Nicola

It is really beautiful but you should focus more on the centre of the flower :) (Smile)

What a beautiful flower!  Great choice of background color, it compliments the vibrant, firey-ness of the petals.
