Perhaps it is a bit early for a newcomer to give a critique, but this stunning image catched me. Note that I write my personal opinion that could be wrong, false or biased.
For the first glimpse I noted the tranquility of this picture, and the fact that it "moves". It has a certain direction pointing left to right by the wedge-shaped envelope of the clouds. It combines ambiguous features into a balanced vision that makes the image remarkable.
While browsing some featured images, I was noticed a tendency or fashion of over-saturated pictures. That's why I took a look for the traces of manipulations, and I was glad to see that if there was any, it was kept in a good hand. The colours are vibrant but natural, the features of the mountain are as dim as they should be, and the water surface is disturbed by small grooves of waves as it is natural, which might be diminished or broken by a heavier modification. Tones are flowing into each other finely and a minor blur of the digital sensor is still there, confessing the true nature of digital imaging – and I think it is important and very good. The picture is frank and clear, without crying and bleeding self-advertising.
Minor flaws are here and there. The lake is slightly tilted to the left. Perhaps the coastline is closer on that side and this causes it, but it is not obvious and perhaps it could be levelled out. The horizon is in the center line which is common for this type of images, but takes the originality. My extremely biased and personal opinion is, that I'd prefer to shift the horizon to the upper third and sacrifice the part of the sky for the sake of its reflections on the water. I think that that would make the overall picture even more exciting, and also reduce the burnt out areas of the clouds on the right that slightly distract. But these are really minor things compared to the overall quality.
I pretty like that the image starts and ends where it have to. The mountain line is well defined, and I have the impression that any camera shift to any side would break it. I don't know the site, this opinion cames from the image only, and this fact proves to me that the side cropping is perfect.
Summary: it is a well-chosen scenery with nice colours, edited with a good taste and gives the "something" that makes the visitor to stay for a while and "watch". Thank you for this beautiful image!
